Fairview School – Weekly Update – January 20 – 24, 2025
To streamline communication with families, moving forward, we will be posting a weekly message on Sunday evenings. You may still receive grade and/or event specific messages via School Messenger, D2L or Google Classroom.
Important Dates:
- January 23 – Grade 9 Tours to Centennial & Dr. EP Scarlett
- January 27 – Grade 9 Tours to Lord Beaverbrook, Henry Wise Wood and Joann Cardinal Schubert
- January 27 – report cards available to parents. They can be found in your MyCBE account
- January 28 – first day of Semester 2
- February 6 – Fun Lunch
- February 11- Parent Council Meeting (we accidently put the February 10th last week)
Next Year Registration:
As we plan for the 2025-26 school year, we need families to advise the school as to whether they are moving out of Fairview School. Those families NOT planning on returning to Fairview in the 2025-26 school year need to email the school at fairview@cbe.ab.ca with your students’ name, current grade and where they will be attending in the 2025-26 school year.
Event Reminders:
Grade 9 Tours – students are only provided the opportunity to go to their designated school unless they have indicated they are interest in IB. Those interested in IB will only go to Henry Wise Wood. Students have been given their trip forms and the need to be returned ASAP.
Yearbooks:
Yearbooks are now available for purchase through your MyCBE Account. Cost is $32 and cut-off for sales is February 10, 2025. Every year we have parents contacting the office in June to see if there are any extra copies. We don’t typically have a surplus of yearbooks, so please ensure you don’t miss the deadline.
Students Praying at School
We sent out a note earlier this week with updated information about students accessing prayers during school time. We have attached that note to this email. Please click the link to update the information about prayers. Student Prayer Request Form
Winter Weather Reminder
Reminder that the weather has changed and we are now in winter. Students should come to school prepared to be outside. The board policy is that students will be outside unless it is –20C or below. This could include time after school waiting for the bus.
Athletics:
Volleyball Season is January 6 – March 19. All tryouts have been completed and team have been chosen. Players need to return their permission forms and pay fees ASAP. Players must refer to schedules provided by coaches
Fairview Parent Advisory Council Updates:
- February 11 - Council Meeting 6:30 pm sharp. We will advise if this is an online or in-person meeting.
- Misty Hall is our new Council Chair
Extended Absences
All students missing 5 days or more must complete an Extended Absence form prior to their first day of absence. Parents must remember that they are responsible for the child completing the necessary school work while they are away. Please print and submit the attached form if you are planning an extended absence. You can also google “Extended Absence Form CBE”.
Traffic Safety:
Please obey all posted traffic signs for drop off/pick-up and parking. Do not park in the city bus zone. For student safety do not U-turn at the crosswalks on Fairmount Drive.
Bussing Information:
As we move into the cold winter months, there may be increased delays with bussing. We urge you to sign up for the appropriate bus tracking apps if you want more information. Unfortunately, at the school we do not have any additional access to information about bussing than you can get from the apps. We have attached the directions on how to register for the Southland and First Student Apps. Currently, TransDev does not have an app that you can use. For TransDev, you can call the following number: 587-349-6652
End of Day Student Pick Up
Should you be picking up your student at the end of the school day and need to advise the student of pick up, please do so before 3:30pm Monday to Thursday or 1:15pm on Fridays.
