Next Year Registration
As we plan for the 2025-26 school year, we need families to advise the school as to whether they are moving out of Fairview School. Only those families not planning on attending Fairview in the 2025-26 school year need to respond. Those families not planning on attending Fairview in the 2025-26 school year need to email the school at fairview@cbe.ab.ca with your students’ name, current grade and where they will be attending in the 2025-26 school year.
Students Praying at School
We sent out a note earlier this week with updated information about students accessing prayers during school time. We have attached that note to this email. Please click the link to update the information about prayers. Student Prayer Request Form
Winter Weather Reminder
Reminder that the weather has changed and we are now in winter. Students should come to school prepared to be outside. The board policy is that students will be outside unless it is –20C or below. This could include time after school waiting for the bus.
Athletics
Volleyball Season is January 6 – March 19. All tryouts have been completed and team have been chosen. Players need to return their permission forms and pay fees ASAP. Players must refer to schedules provided by coaches.
We ask that parents of players please pick up their students from practices and games on time. Teacher’s volunteer their time to coach your students so we ask that all be respectful of that time.
Fairview students are not allowed to go and watch the games hosted at other schools unless they are supervised by their parent(s). This is due to spectator space being saved for parents and siblings of players as this space is limited in most middle school gymnasiums
Fairview School Council Updates
- March 11 - Council Meeting 6:30 pm sharp. ONLINE – link will be sent at a later date
- Misty Hall is our Council Chair
- Extended Absences
All students missing 5 days or more must complete an Extended Absence form prior to their first day of absence. Parents must remember that they are responsible for the child completing the necessary school work while they are away. Please print and submit the attached form if you are planning an extended absence. Please print and submit the Extended Absence Form.
Traffic Safety
Please obey all posted traffic signs for drop off/pick-up and parking. Do not park in the city bus zone. For student safety do not U-turn at the crosswalks on Fairmount Drive.
Busing Information
As we move into the cold winter months, there may be increased delays with busing. We urge you to sign up for the appropriate bus tracking apps if you want more information. Unfortunately, at the school we do not have any additional access to information about bussing than you can get from the apps. Directions on how to register for the Southland and First Student Apps have been sent to parents. Currently, TransDev does not have an app that you can use. For TransDev, you can call the following number: 587-349-6652
End of Day Student Pick Up
Should you be picking up your student at the end of the school day and need to advise the student of pick up, please do so before 3:30pm Monday to Thursday or 1:15pm on Fridays.
Fairview Contingency Plans During Labor Action
Dear Fairview Families,
Further to the emails that you have received directly from CBE, we want to provide clarification regarding school operations during CUPE labor actions beginning on Monday.
As always, our school doors are unlocked and open at 8:50 AM, and all students must be picked up by 4:00PM. There is no supervision for students outside of these times. The exceptions are late buses and our current volleyball schedule. As a school we have flexed to accommodate minor adjustments to drop off and pick up but we will no longer be able to do so.
For those involved in volleyball, your coaches will communicate directly with students regarding alterations to their practice schedule and if necessary, game schedule. We will not be doing morning practices. All evening practices will now conclude by 5pm and students must be picked up by 5:15pm.
Please note that during any sporting events, only parents and guardians of participating athletes will be permitted to attend the games. Siblings of players are only permitted if the parent or guardian is present. This will be strictly enforced.
We want to assure you that once the labor action concludes, we will return to business as usual. We remain committed to supporting our students' learning and well-being. Further details or if you have specific questions, please refer to: Labour Action
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Fairview Admin
