Fairview School – Weekly Update – February 23-27, 2026

 Pink Shirt Day

In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging! If students are not wearing a pink shirt, they are expected to be in their informal uniform.

Microwave Use

Moving forward, students in 4-6 will not be able to use school microwaves. The reason for this is the time it was taking for students to heat up lunch; they do not have time to eat their lunch in the classroom. Please do not send food that requires students to heat their lunch.

Attendance Calls

As mentioned in our phone recording, we ask that parents press number one (1) when calling to report a student's absence. This option directs calls to our dedicated attendance line, where staff listen to messages and record absences. Pressing number zero (0) routes calls to the main office. Office staff are often assisting students, parents, and teachers with other matters, so attendance calls can take them away from those responsibilities.

Early School Pickup

We have recently seen an increase in calls to the office from parents requesting early student pick-ups. When possible, we ask that you make arrangements with your child before they leave for school. If a pick-up has been pre-planned, please do not call the school to ask staff to remind your student. If an unexpected situation arises and you need to pick up your student without prior notice, please call the school before 3:15 p.m. (Monday to Thursday) or before 1:00 p.m. on Fridays.

While our office staff will always do their best to assist, the end of the school day is especially busy, and we cannot guarantee that students can be called out after these times.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available to view and download on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. If you are interested in keeping a copy, please ensure you download it as soon as it’s available, because they’ll only be online until May 28, 2026.

Professional Day

Friday, February 27, 2026 is a non-instructional day. There is no school for students.

Yearbooks

Please ensure you’ve made payment for your student’s yearbook. The cutoff for ordering was Friday.

Field Trips:

Grade 4 – Hitmen Be Brave – Tuesday, February 24, 2026

In School Events:

Comic Club: There was such a keen interest in the Comic Club, that we had to divide the students into 2 groups. If your student is participating in the Comic Club, please ensure they know which group they have been assigned to. The club is running every Tuesday and Thursday from now until March 17, 2026 and will be held in room 207.

Drawing Club : Drawing Club will be held on Wednesdays in room 110, during the second half of lunch.

Card Club: Card Club will be held on Wednesdays for grade 4s in Ms. Robertson’s room, room 141.

** Please note: During inclement weather (indoor lunches), all clubs are cancelled to ensure sufficient eating space is available.

Fun Lunch

Parents are asked to please double-check student’s homerooms when ordering a fun lunch. You may need to adjust if your child changed homerooms since you registered with Healthy Hunger. Also, if your student is absent on the day of fun lunch, and you would like a sibling, or yourself to pick up their lunch, you need to contact the school prior to 10am. We cannot hold lunches at the school for any time due to food safety precautions. Please see below for upcoming dates:

February 26 – Edo (this Thursday)

April 9 – Little Ceasar

May 21 – Chick-fil-A

Bussing

Please do not call the office in the morning or at the end of the day looking for bus information. The office is often very busy during these times, and we do not have any additional bus information beyond what is available to parents.

All parents are required to sign up for the bus information app at www.mybusstop.ca. The registration code for Fairview Bussing is CBESD8GDT8.

Winter Clothing

We want to remind families that it is winter and students need to be dressed appropriately for outside weather. CBE Policy is for an indoor recess if the weather is colder than –20. Students can assume they will be outside for weather that is warmer than that. Additionally, students may spend 10-15 minutes outside after school waiting for their buses, as we sometimes do not know if a bus is delayed. Students who are not appropriately may need to remain in the school.

Leaving Fairview?

The lottery process has now begun. We are accepting new registrations and expressions of interest for the upcoming 2026–27 school year.

To help us offer as many spaces as possible during the lottery draw on February 20, 2026, we are asking for your assistance. If you know that your student will not be attending Fairview next year, please email the school to let us know. This will allow us to offer the space to another student.

Please email fairview@cbe.ab.ca and include:

  • Your student’s name
  • Current grade
  • The school they will be attending next year

(This information is not required for students who will be transitioning from Fairview to high school.)
